Builders League members met on March 23 to discuss a possible course of action to end the practice of some municipal and municipal utilities authorities that require the payment of connection fees prior to actual connection in order to get a Treatment Works Approval. Clayton, Woodstown, Mt. Laurel, Moorestown, Vineland and East Windsor were towns that builders had informed BLSJ were imposing the pre-payment condition. Because builders often apply for multiple sewer connections at one time, a pre-payment provision will require payment of connection fees well in advance of the actual physical connections and in some cases years in advance. This can result in a significant financial burden to builders. South Jersey January Building Permits Up
Building permits for the seven counties in South Jersey were up 40% in January 2010 compared to January 2010 South Jersey Average New Home Sales Price Down
The average new home sales price in South Jersey for the Fourth Quarter of 2009 dropped to $346,741 compared to the average new home sales price of $408,365 in the Third Quarter of 2009 What Remodelers Need to Know About the EPA's Lead Paint Rule
Attorneys for the National Association of Home Builders have drafted new contract language for remodelers and home improvement contractors, who have taken the Lead Paint Certification training, to use in their contracts. As of April 22, the Environmental Protection Administration will require all contractors working in homes built before lead paint was banned in 1978 to be trained and certified under the Lead Paint: Renovation, Repair and Painting rule (LRRP). Contractors subject to the rule include remodelers, carpenters, plumbers, heating and air conditioning workers, window installers and others. |
